Sleepycat Software has released Berkeley DB XML 2.1.7, an open source "application-specific, embedded data manager for native XML data" based on Berkeley DB. It supports the July working drafts of XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0. It includes C++, Java, Perl, Python, TCL and PHP APIs. 2.1.7 improves "overall product stability and made it much easier to get acquainted with Berkeley DB XML. This version is the first to be delivered as pre-compiled binaries within an automated Windows installer. If you're a Windows developer, you no longer have to compile the source code yourself. We've done that for you. The source is still included with the product as always, but now the binaries are there too." In addition the the command line interface has been renamed from 'dbxml_shell' to 'dbxml' and many bugs have been fixed.
